Oral pathology is a branch of dentistry that represents a correlation of basic sciences with clinical dentistry. It is the scientific study of diseases that combines knowledge with investigative procedures helping in the diagnosis and further treatment of diseases. In modern day medicine it also helps in assessing the prognosis of the disease.
Apart from the routine diagnostic procedures employed in the department for the purposes of providing high quality services for the patients, the department of oral pathology is also actively involved in providing excellent opportunity for the youngBDS graduates who opt to pursue master's degree in the faculty of oral and maxillofacial pathology. The department boosts of high quality equipments utilizing which cutting edge research programmes can be conducted. The department is well equipped with an immunopathology lab with all the latest equipments. Frozen microtomy apparatus is also available at the department and the utilization of this novel technique is also encouraged.
Since 2009 the post-graduates in the department are actively involved in attending and presenting papers and posters at various local and national level seminars and symposiums other than their routine curriculum in the department which in part includes guiding of UG students, presenting seminars and journal clubs in presence of staff members, conducting hematological and biochemical investigations upon the patients requiring specialty care, procuring and processing of biopsies specimens etc.
